Soulful Colour

Wassily Kandinsky, one of the legendary abstract painters, once said “Colour is a power which directly influences the soul.” Colour can be very powerful! From origin to impact. Conceptualization to execution. Symbolism to literal feeling. Everything.

Executing an idea through colour or the lack of it could change literally everything about the feeling, evoking variant visual, mental, emotional, and spatial dialogues on multiple levels. Worlds within a world, colour can hold attention and enhance appeal. When a viewer perceives colour, the impact mostly hits undiluted, unadulterated, and authentically, subjectively.

But, when it comes to colour influencing the soul, is it only on the perceptive (viewing and experiencing) level alone? Well, maybe not. Even as Creators, when we apply colour after its conception (whether premeditated, spontaneous or both) while creating, there is some influence (I can say from experience), as the impact remains and only grows on a deeper subconscious level. The depths of how colours affect us as Creators, evolve as we explore and create more. The soul here, could denote many things including an intangible space of purity, authenticity, and depth (of the influence of colour with its diverse nature). The power that colour holds is on multiple fronts thus.

What its power is, to a Creator and Viewer might be different. What colour is, to every person might be different. What colour means and does for every person may be different. What influences the soul and how, could have variant ramifications to each one of us based on what and how we feel.

Therefore, how we hold the power of colour and, how it goes on to influence us through feeling, inevitably is in, and beyond our conscious experience.
